Please check back here for updates as they become available.
One of the most famous women in the world and the most famous woman ever to live in Massachusetts does not have a museum dedicated to telling her story, and we think it is high time she did!
Lizzie Borden took an axe,
And gave her mother forty whacks;
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one!
Everyone knows the rhyme, but few people know the true story of the young woman who was accused, tried and acquitted for the brutal double murder in the sleepy textile community of Fall River Massachusetts. No one else was ever charged for the murders. The murder weapon was never found and the public interest in the story has never wavered!
For more than one hundred years, Lizzie Borden and her hatchet have caused more confusion, speculation and debate than any other murder case in American history. Books, movies, documentaries and the infamous nursery rhyme have put their spin on the mystery. The concept of a Museum devoted to separating fact from myth and telling the true story Lizzie Borden is long overdue.
Opening in the summer of 2008 in Salem, Massachusetts, The True Story of Lizzie Borden is a historical interactive walk-through museum designed to separate the truth from the myth surrounding an unsolved double murder in Fall River, Massachusetts. This museum will turn visitors into detectives using modern forensic techniques to try and discover who murdered Abby and Andrew Borden on Thursday, August 4, 1892.
